The EU AI Act bans some AI uses outright because they are considered an unacceptable risk.
Example
Banned uses include social scoring and software that recognises employees’ emotions at work (with narrow exceptions).
For pros
The bans have applied since 2 February 2025 (Art. 5): among others manipulative techniques, exploiting vulnerabilities, social scoring, untargeted scraping of facial images and certain biometric categorisation. The 2026 amendment added a ban on AI that generates non-consensual intimate content or child sexual abuse material (from 2 December 2026). Violations can lead to high fines.
