What is a skill?
A skill is a text file called SKILL.md. The top says what it is for; below it explains, step by step, how the AI should work. Claude loads the skill on its own whenever your request matches.
- Consistent results without writing a long prompt every time.
- A prompt is a single request. A skill is a lasting set of instructions.
- Runs as a skill in Claude. In ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot you can paste the text as instructions.
