What is Semantic search?
Also called: Meaning-based search, vector search
Semantic search finds texts by their meaning, not just by matching words.
Example
Searching for “cheap car repair” also finds an article about an “affordable garage”.
For pros
Texts and the query are turned into embeddings and compared by similarity, usually in a vector database. In practice it is often combined with classic keyword search (hybrid search) and reranking.
