Features
Foundry Local is for developers who want to ship an app with AI that runs on the user's own device. Per Microsoft, prompts and responses stay on the device, the app works offline and the runtime adds only about 20 MB to the app package. An optional local server is compatible with the OpenAI API.
Per the licence terms, the software may send diagnostic data to Microsoft; you can opt out of much of it, but not all. Each model is also covered by its own licence.
- For Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux; per the vendor no Azure subscription and no per-token costs
- Automatically picks the device's NPU, graphics card or CPU, per the vendor
- Model catalog per the vendor includes GPT OSS, Qwen, DeepSeek, Mistral, Phi and Whisper, among others

How we compare
We compare free access, paid entry, plan limits, features and the listed official sources. Unsourced figures stay marked as not published.
Only confirmed entries appear in the catalog. Prices, plans and limits come from listed official vendor pages. Missing figures stay marked as not published. Search results are ordered by Task match by default; category and task lists are alphabetical. Both can be switched to Free access first; neither is a quality ranking. The vendor page always wins.
