A Custom GPT is your own version of ChatGPT with fixed instructions and knowledge files. According to OpenAI, Custom GPTs are scheduled to retire on 11 December 2026.
Example
A sports club had a GPT that answered questions about its rules. It now needs a new home.
For pros
According to OpenAI’s help center, GPTs can be converted into plugins: instructions become a skill, knowledge files become reference files. Custom actions and the chosen model are not carried over.
